How you knew it;
And explain how you feel about it.
故事構(gòu)思
What
There are several lines and fragments of poems and songs that I remember quite well. One such line is If God would give an important task to a certain person,the first things he does is to temper his will power, fatigue his muscles and bones,starve his stomach and destitute his body.
Source of the poem
These lines are from Mencius(孟子), a great philosophical work(哲學(xué)著作) in ancient China. We had this poem in our Chinese textbook at high school. I remember how we used to groan(抱怨) when our Chinese teacher asked us to memorize the poems. But now I realise what a wealth these poems are for me today. They continue to have an impact on me. I discover more complex little gems(精華) of meaning and connections in those poems as I grew older.
Impact on me
The line By Mencius has been a powerful motivator for me all through my life. Whenever I tempted to give up or slip into a laid back(閑散的) attitude, it conveys to me the importance of commitment(投入) and responsibility, nudging(推) me on. During my college years, it was so easy for me to get sidetracked(分心) from my studies, with little discipline(管束) from school, but this line would speak to me and keep me focused on my goal.
Even after I started working, laziness often lured(誘惑) me to be just satisfied with the status quo(現(xiàn)狀) and rest on my laurels(榮譽) rather than trying to upgrade to new skills. But I always manage to bounce back by reminding myself of this line.
