審題要注意兩點(diǎn),一是討論對(duì)象限定在Sugary products上,二是題目給出的邏輯提高價(jià)格能減少人們攝入。建議從反對(duì)的角度切入。

反對(duì)的原因在于,雖然經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)角度來(lái)說(shuō),提高含糖食品的價(jià)格可能會(huì)使得人們減少購(gòu)買(mǎi),進(jìn)而達(dá)到少攝入糖分的目的。但是,很多含糖分的食品對(duì)人們來(lái)說(shuō)是剛需,比如作為主食的面包(在國(guó)外面包是主食)、燒菜用的調(diào)味品等,提高這部分的價(jià)格可能并不會(huì)讓人減少攝入,同時(shí)還會(huì)加重人們的經(jīng)濟(jì)負(fù)擔(dān),特別對(duì)于本身就貧窮的人來(lái)說(shuō),他們很難找到替代品。

而如果需要達(dá)到讓人少吃糖進(jìn)而改善健康的目的,可以有更多更好的辦法。一是加大健康飲食的宣傳,強(qiáng)調(diào)過(guò)度攝入糖分會(huì)對(duì)身體危害,改變?nèi)藗兊挠^念。二是可以通過(guò)政策獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)讓企業(yè)生產(chǎn)更多健康的食物替代原來(lái)的高糖的食品,達(dá)到減少供給的目的,當(dāng)市面上高糖食物供給減少后,人們攝入的量自然而然也就變得更少了。

It is argued by some that we should make the prices of sugary products higher as a means of pushing people to intake less sugar, considering how more and more processed products consist of huge amounts of sugar which leads to multiple health problems. Personally, I completely disagree with this view, and would argue that it is neither right nor practical to try to raise the prices of sugary products.

On the one hand, it is undeniable that highly processed food and drink products can be a threat to modern citizens health conditions. Sugar is the new poison, as many would say. In order to improve the taste of these products, manufacturers often choose to add an unhealthily high level of sugar, which can cause mild addiction by spiking dopamine release in human brains according to multiple researches across the world. This method is so widespread that sugar can even be found in the least expected things, such as daily seasonings like vinegar and soy sauce. As a result, people today are consuming an excessive dosage of sugar that human bodies are simply not designed to cope with. After all, mass production of sugar only started several centuries ago, yet it took tens of thousands of years for our ancestors to develop the rewarding mechanism that we have in our brains today, which both helped our species survive in the Stone Age and is slowly killing many of us today.

With all that being said, I would argue that trying to raise the price of sugary products would be an effort in vain, which may even cause more serious consequences for society. First of all, sugary food and drink products are fast-moving consumer products, often consumed rapidly and priced low, which means that consumer perception of their price changes can be low. This is to say, most consumers are not likely to stop buying such products simply because the price has increased by 5 cents. For families with poorer financial conditions, the price changes might seem more obvious. However, while they can reduce the consumption of snacks, they cannot avoid buying daily products such as the sweetened seasoners mentioned above. Thus, the living cost of people will rise, and this may lead to serious problems for society.

In conclusion, I believe that we have no reason to try to intervene with the price of sugary products.
