2019年1212雅思亞太區(qū)寫作真題:語言消失的利弊——范文精選

范文一:

Around the world, only a few languages are increasing in use. The use of many other languages is declining. Is it a positive or negative development?

With sweeping trend of(隨著---的風(fēng)靡) globalization and economic integration, certain languages are accepted by a sizeable percentage of countries for better communication between each other, further mutual exchange of products and cultures. Therefore, some individuals deem that the merits of prosperity and development of some languages instead of various ones outweigh(比—重要) its demerits. After thoughtful consideration, I am convinced that the dominant position of a few languages is an absolute blessing(肯定是好事).

Admittedly, language is intimately bound up with(密不可分) culture, which means it may be an extremely demanding job(很難的事情) to preserve one without the other. Undoubtedly, the loss of diversity may deprive people of(剝奪) different ways of looking at the world. Not to mention that(更不用說) if only a few cultures dominate the world, people’s life will become boring and monotonous, which is the least thing we would expect to see(這是我們最不希望看到的事情).

However, much heavier weight should be attached to the benefits brought about by this phenomenon. For one thing, language barriers and cultural shock(語言障礙和文化沖擊) have long impeded(阻礙) international interflow and cooperation, causing a lot of inconveniences and frustrations. If people from different countries use the same language, they do not need to worry about communication problems when travelling, studying and doing business in another country.

For another, popularization and application of certain languages facilitate economic complementation and cooperation between countries. In other words, without languages as media to enhance effective communication, economic cooperation and interaction between countries may fail to run on the rails(無法走上正軌). For instance, English, as the most widely used language utilized by countless countries, plays an irreplaceable role in terms of raising efficiency of communication among countries greatly and tackling the conflicts and disputes among multinational corporations effectively.

On balance, I hold the view that furthering development of certain languages to coincide with(與---相一致) the trend of development of the current society is a positive trend, considering its role towards accelerating economic and social development.

范文二:

As the global trend toward globalism and the use of a lingua franca grows, local languages continue to perish.I think although a smaller number of languages can make life easier, it is important to try and preserve all language.(40words)

On the one hand, when fewer languages are in use, communication tends to become easier

in most cases. It will be really convenient if one can talk with others from various parts of the world without the need for a live translator or special software for assistance. This means that different nations around the globe are likely to be able to cooperate more closely if fewer languages are in use. For instance, a conference at the United Nations will be more convenient and productive for politicians if they all can communicate using a limited set of languages, or perhaps even one, instead of having to wait for translations to come through. Consequently, better results are likely to be achieved more quickly, and many issues could be resolved as a result of better mutual understanding.(134?words)

On the other hand, every language represents the culture within which it has developed. It reflects the lifestyle and traditions of the people who use it to communicate within the context of their daily lives, and it is the foundation of their folklore and literature. Although some might argue that these could be translated into more common languageslike English or Chinese, it is quite unlikely that the exact meaning of each phrase, expression, idiom, proverb or poem can be translated. This means that once a nations’language has died out, a significant portion of its culture and history is lost with it, leaving them with a weaker cultural and national identity(112 words)

In conclusion, I believeeven though the fall in the number of languages in use allows people to communicate more conveniently, making their lives less complicated, it is still important for every language to be saved from extinction so that the culture, history and literature of all nations are protected.(50words)
